1. Add your people
Use "+ Add Person" and tap into each name chip to type real names. Names are saved on this device automatically, so they'll be there next time too.
2. Scan a receipt
Tap the scan area to take a photo or pick one from your gallery. The app reads the prices and lists them as items below.
3. Choose who shares each item
Every item shows a chip for each person. Tap the chips for whoever is sharing that item - for example, tap A, B and C to split item 1 between just those three, then D and E for item 2. Anyone not tapped for an item pays nothing towards it.
- "Split equally" ticks everyone for that item in one tap.
- "Ignore" excludes a line entirely - handy for the printed total, card fees, or payment lines.
4. Set the tip
Enter a tip percentage and everyone's share of the tip is added on top of their own item total automatically.
5. Currency, at home or abroad
Split Receipt reads the currency off the receipt itself and shows every amount the way that country writes it - "12,50 €" in Spain, "¥1,200" in Japan, "£12.50" back home. If it guesses wrong, or a receipt gives it nothing to go on, pick the right one from the Currency dropdown and it will stick to your choice from then on.
6. Wholesale invoices (Booker and the like)
Use "Upload a PDF invoice instead" for a cash and carry invoice. These do not work like a till receipt, so they are read differently:
- Printed prices exclude VAT, so each line has VAT added at its own coded rate - the rates are read off the table on the invoice's last page, so upload every page.
- Quantities are split into one row per unit (up to six), so two of three packs can go to one person and the third to somebody else.
- Voided lines and the line they reverse both disappear.
- Credit notes are shared across every line in proportion to its value, so the per-person totals still add up to the invoice total.
- The tip is set to 0% - nobody tips a cash and carry.
The summary card shows the goods, VAT and credits, and tells you if the lines it read do not match the invoice's own total - which is your sign a price was misread and worth checking.
7. Scanning more than one receipt
If you scan another photo later in the evening while items are already on screen, you'll be asked whether to add the new items to the running list or start fresh - so one big night out can cover several receipts.
8. Save or reload a session
"Export CSV" downloads your people, items and assignments as a file you can keep or share. "Import CSV" loads one back in, replacing what's currently on screen.
